Maki Ohguro

Maki Ohguro made her debut in 1992 and quickly became one of Japan’s most successful female rock singers. She scored a series of million-selling hits including “Anata Dake Mitsumeteru,” “Natsu ga Kuru,” and “La La La.” Her first major concert in 1997 drew an audience of 47,000 people at Ariake in Tokyo.
In 2010, Ohguro temporarily suspended her career to undergo medical treatment. She returned to the stage in 2016 at the Rising Sun Rock Festival in her hometown of Hokkaido, marking the beginning of her full comeback.
Following her return, she embarked on an ambitious nationwide tour covering all 47 prefectures of Japan, performing 85 shows through May 2018. Since then, she has continued touring every year. In 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, she live-streamed every originally scheduled concert date that had been postponed. Later that year she resumed her nationwide tour and released her album PHOENIX on December 23.
In 2021, she took on a new challenge by appearing in the musical The PROM produced by Chikyu Gorgeous, marking her first major role in a stage musical.
Ohguro celebrated the 30th anniversary of her debut on May 27, 2022, launching another nationwide tour across all 47 prefectures. The tour concluded on May 28, 2023 with a final performance at Tokyo Garden Theater attended by 5,000 fans. Her commemorative album SPARKLE was released on December 14, 2022.
In April 2024, she held a charity concert at Zepp Yokohama to support recovery efforts following the Noto Peninsula earthquake and continued her support activities throughout the year, including another charity concert at Kumamoto Castle Hall in December.
In July 2024, Ohguro made her debut in a terrestrial television drama, appearing as Associate Director Kie Ejiri in the TBS Sunday Theatre series Black Pean 2.
Throughout 2025, she conducted a nationwide tour under the titles 55BLACK and 55RED, beginning April 26. Her latest album 55BLACK was released on August 2, and the tour concluded with a final performance at Tokyo International Forum on November 16.
On May 27, 2026, she will begin the celebration of the 35th anniversary of her debut, with a new album titled 55RED scheduled for release in the summer.
